Amy’s father, Mitch, has also spoken up about the risks and dangers of detoxing from alcohol that most people are unaware of. He believes his daughter died of a seizure brought on by detoxing as she tried to quit alcohol without professional support.
"The problem is that she was told not to detox without medical supervision and she chose to ignore that advice. She had a history of seizures and I believe that because of the detox - that was a contributing factor in her death."
Few people know that an alcohol detox is the only actual withdrawal that can, of itself, be fatal. Statistics show that around 5% of people who don’t receive any treatment will experience seizures during those unsupported detoxes.

Yesterday would have been Amy Winehouse’s 28th Birthday. Amy, who tragically died in July battled with alcohol and drug dependency. Her family have announced a foundation in her memory with the aim of preventing other people suffering with similar problems.
