Alcoholism
02/09/2011
Alcoholism is a disease that involves a constant craving to drink alcohol and a reluctance to stop drinking alcohol even when its consistently negative effects become apparent. These may include poor health, employment loss, family issues and relationship breakdown. Alcoholism is clinically called alcohol dependence.
The craving to keep drinking alcohol can be as strong as a starving person's need to eat. There are many physical withdrawal symptoms including nausea, sweating, nervous shakes and anxiety.
While alcoholism is a harmful disease, it can be very dangerous to attempt detox without medical supervision.
